After five years working in London, I decided it was time to move back to Los Angeles, but not before taking a year off to see the world. I gave up my great job with Lehman Brothers in Administration and a fantastic flat (and roommate) I’d lived in for over three years, packed up all my belongings into some 60 cubic feet of boxes and said farewell to the wonderful friends I made in London. Before setting off for Asia, I spent seven weeks in the States including a weekend getaway in Chicago with my best friends from high school, corrective eye surgery in Philadelphia, Aud and Rob’s wedding in Bermuda, 13 days in Israel on Birthright (with a side trip to Petra) and time in quiet Oak Park with my parents and sister. Then, on July 18, 2010 at 1am, with only 13 kilograms in my 50L backpack and a small shoulder bag, I boarded a flight to Singapore. The goal of my adventure is not one of self-discovery or mending a broken heart but a journey of true desire to explore the world, experience new cultures, taste various cuisines, explore beautiful wildernesses, meet local people, and maybe learn some Spanish along the way. What lies below are my stories (or more of a daily recount of events) from the road.

To the end of the world we go
Greetings from the southern most city in the world, Ushuaia. We spent 12 hours in Peggy today driving from Punta Arenas, the fastest time Andy's made so far. Only got three hours of sleep. Breakfast was at 6am for a 6:30 departure. A few people showed up late after a big New Years out.
When we arrived at the ferry terminal for our boat across the Magellan Strait, I seemed to be deserted. Through binoculars, Andy saw them loading the boat on the other side. Phew! I thought I'd stay inside the cabin on the boat, but the black and white dophins playing nearby were much more entertaining. We must have seen at least ten. Amazing!
Landing on Tierra del Fuego, we still had a bit of driving before the Chile-Argentina border. Leaving Chile didn't take long and in Argentina the guard insisted on taking our passports and sending us back to the truck. We stopped for lunch just past the border office once we'd all gotten our documents. Last lunch outside Peggy, so I antibacterialized up and chopped tomatoes and cut bread. Very exciting. Lunch was the usual, salami or ham slices with cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, avocado with the added bonus of hummus. Hard to get creative with limited resources.
Back on Peggy, we drove until we reached Tuhillo and after refueling, continued the last couple hours to Ushuaia arriving at 6:30pm. I ended up going to dinner with Sarah, Nick, Ted and Brad at an American style restauarnt (Tante Sara) on the main street. First time I've ordered a salad, and Ceasar for that matter. Ted generously treated us to the meal since he'd run out of cash.
When I got back to the room, Sameena was already asleep.
